How to Measure Your Ideal Abaya Length at Home

Measuring abaya length at home gives you a better starting point than choosing by height alone. Your preferred hem position, the shoes you wear and the garment's cut all affect how a length feels. Keep a note of the measurements you like so you can compare future purchases consistently.

Measuring abaya length at home gives you a better starting point than choosing by height alone. Your preferred hem position, the shoes you wear and the garment's cut all affect how a length feels. Keep a note of the measurements you like so you can compare future purchases consistently.

Prepare your tape and a garment you enjoy wearing

Use a flexible tape measure, a flat surface and an abaya with a comfortable length. Smooth the garment without stretching it. Fasten it as you normally would and make sure the shoulder seams are positioned evenly.

Measure an existing garment from its highest shoulder point down to the hem, keeping the tape straight. Record where you started. A measurement is useful only when you compare it with a seller's measurement taken from the same point.

Check the length while wearing your usual shoes

Put on the shoes you expect to wear with the new abaya. Ask someone to help you check the distance from the shoulder to your preferred hem position while you stand naturally. Avoid leaning forward to read the tape, because that changes the position of the garment.

Walk a few steps, turn and sit down. Notice whether the hem catches under your shoes or rises more than you prefer. Record both the measured length and the kind of footwear you tried.

Compare garment dimensions, not the label alone

The Izzah Bella size guide describes abaya sizes as garment lengths in inches. That number does not, by itself, tell you the garment's width, shoulder fit or sleeve length. Check the individual product details and ask for any missing measurements before ordering.

  • Confirm the unit of measurement and the shoulder-to-hem method.
  • Compare chest or garment width with an abaya that fits comfortably.
  • Check sleeve length and where the shoulder seam sits.
  • Allow room for the layers you plan to wear beneath it.

Make a final movement check

Raise your arms gently and reach forward. Your sleeves and shoulders should allow the movement you need without pulling across the body. An open style should also provide your preferred coverage when you walk.

Review the size guide. If the product measurements or measuring method are unclear, contact the team with your notes before choosing a size.
